 How To Find Motherboard Model

It is important to know how to find the motherboard model when you need to upgrade your computer or you want to buy new parts for it. Not all motherboard models are easily displayed in the computer unit, and you have to know how to find it yourself. Here are some ways that can help you identify your computer’s motherboard model

You will need:
Computer manual or handbook
hardware identification utility software
screwdriver
magnifying glass
Internet connection
The motherboard model is essential information that computer owners need to know. This is highly relevant when you need to make a BIOS upgrade to allow the computer recognize a new CPU. You may also want to make sure that the computer delivered to you has the motherboard model you specifically ordered.
Decide the manner you prefer when retrieving the motherboard model. You should avoid opening your new computer that is still within its warranty period. This will void the warranty for your computer unit.
You can easily retrieve the motherboard model by checking the documents that come along with your purchase. You may resort on reading the manual or handbook where you can find all information about the computer parts, model, price, etc. This will make the task easier for you to find the motherboard model of your computer.
Use hardware identification utility software. This will read the serial number of the BIOS of the computer which will provide information on the motherboard model as well. You can download identification utility software online like Sandra, Everest, Wimsbios, and Hwinfo. You can also make use of the control panel of your computer to obtain information about your computer BIOS.
Open your computer to look at the motherboard model. You will need a screwdriver to do this and use magnifying glass as well. The print on the motherboard can be very small that it would be difficult to read its model. You can find the motherboard model from between the expansion slots where the expansion cards are located. Make sure to remove the card to get a better view in case the print is blocked by the card from the slot. You can also check near the processor where the model information is commonly printed by other manufacturers.
Keep an eye on the motherboard model as you boot the computer. Oftentimes, the motherboard model is displayed as the BIOS undergo its post routine. Pressing the Pause key will freeze the screen so you can view the information displayed better and then press any key to restart it.
Check for the FCC ID number found on the motherboard slot. You can use this information to match it with the manufacturer’s name using the FCC database found online at http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/, where you can possibly obtain the motherboard model of your computer.

How To Install Motherboard Drivers

The motherboard is the heart of any computer, and with technology increasing each year, learning how to install motherboard drivers is crucial and can be done quite easily. Whether you have a new motherboard to install with fresh drivers, or if you have an older PC that you need to update, it is essential to keep the motherboard updated with new drivers that are compatible with the new software that comes out each year.

What is a BIOS?

BIOS is an acronym meaning Basic Input / Output System. It is stored in a chip called ROM (read only memory). Most of the latest motherboards now use EEPROM's (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) (also called "Flash" BIOS) which can usually be upgraded by the user. (The earlier versions of the BIOS had to have the chip physically removed and replaced with a another chip programmed with a later BIOS version.) When you switch on your computer the BIOS is the first program to run . It initializes and tests the hardware in your computer (called Power On Self Test or POST). When everything is running, the BIOS program initiates and loads the operating system. The information in the BIOS can be changed by running Setup (sometimes called CMOS Setup). A set of routines called Run-Time Services, which is also a function of the BIOS, help operating systems and application programs to manage the hardware.

How To Find and Download Drivers From Manufacturer Websites

The best place to download a driver is direct from the hardware manufacturer. Before you can update a driver, you'll need to find and download the latest version.

Drivers downloaded from the manufacturer will be the most tested and up to date available. The manufacturer is almost always the original source of any driver you find anywhere else so why not download it from the source?

Note: If downloading drivers direct from the manufacturer isn't possible there are several other driver download sources available

Follow the steps below to find and download drivers direct from hardware manufacturer websites:

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Finding and downloading drivers from manufacturer websites usually takes less than 20 minutes
Here's How:
Identify the make and model of the specific hardware you need drivers for. You'll need this information so you know what company to contact and then what specific drivers to download from their website.

Important: If you're trying to find drivers for a branded computer system (like a Dell desktop, a Toshiba laptop, etc.), all you need is the exact model number of your complete system. You shouldn't need to identify the specifics of any individual piece of hardware in your computer unless you've upgraded it yourself.

Find the hardware manufacturer's support website. Nearly every hardware manufacturer in the world has a website with detailed support information including driver downloads, manuals, troubleshooting information, etc.

Locate the driver download area of the manufacturer's support site.

Note: The driver download area could be called by any of several different names including "Downloads", "Software Downloads", "Driver Downloads", "Drivers", "Drivers and Firmware", "Drivers and Software", etc. If you visit a website's home page first, look for a "Support" area first. Any driver download options will probably be located within that area of the website.

Using the website's navigation or search abilities, choose the specific hardware you need drivers for.

Note: Every website is different so its hard to give precise instructions on how to navigate through a catalog of driver downloads but most support sites that I've seen are fairly easy to use. If you have trouble finding your way around a specific website, your best bet is to contact the company directly.

Choose the drivers designed for your operating system. For example, if you're using Windows 7, choose the drivers designed for Windows 7.

Important: You must also choose between 32-bit and 64-bit drivers. If you're running a 32-bit version of Windows, you must install 32-bit drivers. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows, you must install 64-bit drivers.Version of Windows? for instructions on finding out.

Download the drivers to your computer. Save the downloaded file to your desktop or to another familiar location.

Important: Many drivers available today are configured for automatic installation. This means that all you have to do is run the downloaded file and the drivers will be updated automatically. The instructions given on the manufacturer's website should tell you if the drivers you're downloading are configured this way. If so, there's no reason to continue with these steps.

Extract the downloaded drivers. Instructions provided on the driver download page on the hardware manufacturer's website should provide detailed instructions on extracting the drivers.

Note: Usually this involves uncompressing the many driver files located in the compressed file you downloaded. Most compressed files have a ZIP or RAR file extension. Sometimes the compressed files are in a self-extracting format with an EXE file extension, making the process very easy.

The downloaded drivers for your hardware are now ready for updating in Device Manager.

Driver download websites are popular sources for downloading drivers. Driver download websites make downloading drivers easy by providing a single place to download drivers for many kinds of hardware.

Some driver download websites link to drivers on other websites while many provide drivers on their own servers for download. Either way, they're all great resources for driver downloads especially if you're looking to download drivers for older hardware.

Important: The best way to download a driver is direct from the manufacturer so always try that first before downloading drivers from a driver download website.

1. Download.com: Device Drivers

CNET Networks
Download.com is one of the most popular driver download (and software download) websites on the Internet.

The Good: Downloading drivers from Download.com is easy: drivers are organized by device type and no registration is required to download drivers, unlike many other driver download websites. Download.com stands out as a driver download website because they've been a trusted source for software downloads for years.

The Bad: A lot of software shows up when looking through the listing of downloadable drivers - probably an attempt to advertise certain programs. Most drivers available for download are for newer hardware. If you need to download drivers for older hardware, you'll probably have to try another driver download website.

2. DriverGuide.com
DriverGuide.com is one of the oldest driver download websites. They advertise a catalog of nearly half a million drivers and firmware files.

The Good: Searching for and downloading drivers is very easy. DriverGuide.com has a huge selection of hard to find drivers and is good at keeping their driver inventory up to date.

The Bad: You're forced to register before you can download drivers which involves multiple questions and "sponsored" offer pages. Free accounts are limited in access to the site and to the number of driver downloads that can be made. More costly "Plus" and "Pro" memberships give greater access to driver downloads. Unless you're looking for a rare driver, finding and downloading drivers yourself is very easy.

3. TechSpot: Drivers
TechSpot.com is a technology website offering forums, software downloads, and more, in addition to driver downloads.

The Good: Finding the driver you want to download is easy and no registration is needed. Like most driver download sites, drivers are organized by type of device. Drivers are downloaded direct from the manufacturer so they should be trustworthy.

The Bad: During my driver download testing, several of the hardware categories had not been recently updated. The newest driver available for download in one category was over six months old! Since the drivers available here are just direct links to drivers on manufacturer sites, I recommend searching for the hardware manufacturer yourself and downloading the most up to date driver.

4. DriversBay.com
DriversBay.com is your standard driver download website. Many drivers are downloaded from DriversBay.com while others are made available for download from the hardware manufacturer's site.

The Good: There's no registration required to download drivers from DriversBay.com and like many other driver download sites, the drivers are organized by hardware making them easy to locate. A big plus at DriversBay.com is the wide range of operating systems that they provide drivers for, something most other driver download websites lack.

The Bad: The biggest issue with DriversBay.com is the small selection of drivers. With so few options you may be better off using another driver download website with a bigger driver catalog.

5. Soft32.com: Drivers
Soft32.com is a software download website that also provides driver downloads. Soft32.com links to drivers at the manufacturer's website instead of providing drivers for download themselves.

The Good: Finding drivers at Soft32.com is easy and no registration is required. Like other driver download sites, it's organized by device and then you look for the actual driver you wish to download. Direct links to drivers at manufacturer websites ensures that you're downloading the latest drivers available.

The Bad: Many of the links to manufacturer sites were either dead, linked to a non-driver pages, or even linked to the wrong website! I recommend skipping this driver download site and searching for the hardware manufacturer yourself.

6. DriverZone.com
DriverZone.com is a dedicated driver download website. Some drivers are actually downloaded from DriverZone.com while other links that appear to be driver downloads simply send you to the manufacturer's support site.

The Good: No registration is necessary here and drivers are easy to find for download. Like most other driver download sites, DriverZone.com is organized by type of hardware making things easy to find.

The Bad: A big "download" button makes you think you're actually downloading a driver so when you're sometimes linked to a manufacturer's main website, it can be a bit confusing. I also found several download links that went nowhere meaning the drivers available for download here are not kept up to date.

7. Softpedia.com:Drivers
Softpedia.com is a software download website that also provides driver downloads, exactly like Soft32.com. Softpedia.com links to drivers at the manufacturer's website instead of providing drivers for download from their own website.

The Good: No registration is required to download drivers and navigating around their website is very easy.

The Bad: Most of the driver downloads link directly to the driver file on the manufacturer site so it's hard to tell if you're downloading the latest driver or just an old one that's still available for download. I say skip this driver download site and search for the hardware manufacturer yourself. That way, you can make sure you're downloading the very latest driver release from the manufacturer.

8. SoftwareDriverDownload.com
SoftwareDriverDownload.com is a small driver download website that doesn't seem to update often.

The Good: No registration is required at SoftwareDriverDownload.com but the third party download site that hosts their files may require registration before you can download drivers.

The Bad: SoftwareDriverDownload.com has a small driver selection compared to most driver download websites. Also, unlike most other driver sites, SoftwareDriverDownload.com is difficult to navigate. Drivers are organized by hardware category but the categories are inconveniently listed near the bottom of the page and the driver results are not organized at all. Skip this site unless you're in need for a driver you haven't been able to find somewhere else.

9. DriversKit.com
DriversKit.com is not a real driver download website. I've listed this website anyway because it appears like a legitimate driver download website and I'd like to help my readers avoid it.

The Good: Nothing good here. Skip this website if you actually want to download drivers.

The Bad: DriversKit.com does not offer drivers for download. Every page that appears to be a link to a specific driver is really a link to a download of Driver Updater Pro, a software program you have to pay for that downloads and updates drivers for you. Finding and downloading any drivers you might need is a very easy thing to do yourself. You should never have to pay money to download or update drivers.

10. DriverFiles.net
DriverFiles.net is not actually a driver download website. I list DriverFiles.net here because it appears as a driver download website and I'd like to use this opportunity to debunk it.

The Good: There's nothing helpful on this site if you're looking to download drivers.

The Bad: You will not find any driver you're looking for at DriverFiles.net. Every single link to download a driver instead links you to a download of Driver Detective, a software program you have to pay to use. Finding and downloading drivers yourself is very easy. You should never have to pay to download or update drivers.

Know of Another Driver Download Website?

A lot of driver download websites exist so I certainly could have missed one. If I have, or if any of the information about one of these driver sites needs updated, please let me know. I'd like this to be a complete list of driver download sites and with your help it could be!

How to Update Your BIOS
Updating your BIOS can cut boot times, fix compatibility issues, and improve overall performance--or brick your system if you do it wrong.

Your computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the first software your PC loads. It sets the stage for your operating system, so to speak, by finding all your PC's various hardware components and letting the operating system know it can use them.

As with any software, your computer or motherboard manufacturer periodically updates the BIOS to fix bugs, add compatibility with new devices, improve caching functions, and make several other hardware tweaks that can speed up your boot time and fix annoying issues. These updates are available at the manufacturer's site. But if you make a mistake in the update process, you risk rendering your PC unbootable. Here's how to make sure your BIOS update goes without a hitch.
Step 1: Identify your current BIOS version.
The easiest way to find your BIOS version is to open up the System Information app in Windows--just type msinfo32 into the search bar (for Windows 7/Vista) or the Run box (XP), and click System Summary; your BIOS version should now show up on the right under your processor speed. Record your version number (and the date that appears afterwards, if applicable).

Step 2: Check your PC/motherboard manufacturer's Website for BIOS updates.
Most PC manufacturers handle BIOS updates based on your specific line and model, so head over to your manufacturer's support page and check its listings for your PC, because if you download and install a BIOS intended for a different model, your PC probably won't work (although most BIOS updaters are smart enough to notice if you try to install them on the wrong hardware). If there is a BIOS update file available, grab it--along with any documentation it comes with, because often warnings and specific instructions are contained in the Read Me docs.

Those of you who assembled your PC yourself will need to look for BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer's Website. If you don't remember your motherboard's model number, you can look it up without opening up the case by downloading and running CPU-Z and clicking on the Mainboard tab.

Step 3: Read the included documentation.
The BIOS updater's Read Me file will most likely include a list of fixes and new functions, often to support new hardware. Updating the BIOS for my Lenovo Thinkpad T500, for example, added support for a new AC adapter and a 1600-by-900-pixel screen resolution on an external monitor; the update also fixed fan speed and Webcam issues that could not have been handled by updating Windows or my specific device driver software.

More important, however, were these notes in the Read Me file: If I was running Vista on my T500, I'd need to make sure that I had a certain patch installed; and if my T500 had a certain graphics card, I would need to update its drivers above a certain version before updating my BIOS. Read and reread your docs, or you might make your PC unable to boot without even knowing why.

Step 4: Update your BIOS.
Most newer PCs have a fairly easy BIOS update procedure: Just download the .exe file from your PC manufacturer's Website, quit all open programs, run the .exe, and let it handle the patch; then reboot. If your PC suddenly shuts down in the middle of the BIOS update, you won't be able to boot up, so make sure you're not running off a laptop battery. Ideally, you're plugged into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), especially if you're in an area prone to blackouts.

Older PCs, however, might require you to set up your own bootable disk to update the BIOS yourself. You might still be able to download an app that configures a USB thumb drive, blank CD/DVD, or even a floppy disk so that you can boot off of it to update the BIOS, or an ISO image file that can be used in your disc-burning app of choice (if you don't have such an app, try ISO Recorder for Windows XP or the version for Windows 7/Vista) to create a BIOS update CD.

Other systems will have you copy a few files to your bootable disk, restart, and open up the BIOS during startup (typically by pressing a specified key for setup options), and change the boot order so your system looks for a bootable USB drive or CD before loading the OS from your hard drive.

Anti virus Malware Protection Info Help Plus. What Anti virus Malware software Are You Using To Protect Your Computer ? http://www.facebook.com/questions/129306837172440/?qa_ref=qd http://pc-tips.yolasite.com/anti-virus-malware-protection.php

Free Antivirus Programs
http://pc-tips.yolasite.com/anti-virus-malware-protection.php
One nasty virus could expose your financial information or stop your computer from working at all. What you need is the best antivirus software possible on your computer. Luckily, some of the best are also completely free!

Many companies offer free versions of their popular antivirus programs for home users while offering versions with more advanced features as an upgrade option for professional and business users.

Important: There are no "on-demand only" (without constant virus protection), trial, or shareware antivirus programs in this list. These are the best antivirus programs that are completely free and work similarly to expensive programs from companies like Norton and McAfee.

1. AVG Anti-Virus Free
Anti-Virus Free from AVG is the best free antivirus software available. AVG Anti-Virus Free is a full-fledged antivirus and antispyware tool, includes an email scanner, link scanner, scheduled scanning options, automatic updates, and more. There is no need to pay for an antivirus program when the best free antivirus software in the world is just a download away.

AVG Anti-Virus Free works on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000.

The huge number of premium features, frequency of updating, and install-it-and-forget-it aspect of AVG's Anti-Virus Free really do make it the best of the best free antivirus programs available today.

2. avast! Free Antivirus
AVAST Software's avast! Free Antivirus most certainly deserves to be on any list of the best free antivirus programs. avast! Free Antivirus has fully functioning antivirus and antispyware engines protecting your PC from threats from the Internet, your files, emails, and even instant messages.

avast! Free Antivirus supports Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000.

One big reason I included avast! Free Antivirus as a best free antivirus program is because of its "heuristics engine" which can detect previously unknown viruses and other malware. I also like the fact that AVAST has been making this antivirus product since 1988 and is often cited as the most installed antivirus product.

Tip: During the avast! installation, you're asked to install the free Google Chrome browser. It's not required so if you're not interested just uncheck the box. Also, you are required to register avast! to use it more than 30 days but registration is free and pretty simple. You'll also have to reregister once per year - again, for free.

3. Microsoft Security Essentials
Security Essentials from Microsoft is definitely one of the best free antivirus programs available right now. Microsoft is relatively new to the antivirus game but don't let that scare you - Security Essentials is a fantastic antivirus program that protects you from all sorts of malware, updates automatically, and is incredibly easy to use.

Microsoft Security Essentials supports Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Two of the biggest reasons I added Microsoft Security Essentials to this list of the best free antivirus software is because it's directly from Microsoft and also because it's very easy to see if you're computer is secure from threats: if the icon next to your clock is green, you're in good; if it's red, something is wrong.

4. Comodo Antivirus
Comodo Antivirus from Comodo Security Solutions is another excellent program, easily one of the best free antivirus options out there. As of this writing, Comodo Antivirus bills itself as the "Best Antivirus on the Market. Guaranteed." due to its proprietary Defense+ technology. Comodo Antivirus also protects you from several threat sources, just as most of the other best free antivirus programs on this list do.

Comodo Antivirus works on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Comodo Antivirus is easily one of the best free antivirus solutions solely because of its Defense+ technology that, by default, assumes unknown files are threats instead of safe. That sounds like it might cause problems but Comodo Antivirus utilizes some other technologies to make the whole process silent but still very effective.

5. Avira AntiVir Personal
Avira AntiVir Personal protects you from viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, adware, and various other kinds of malware, making it a fully functional antimalware tool and certainly one of the best free antivirus programs.

Avira AntiVir Personal works on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. Avira also makes a version of AntiVir Personal for UNIX.

The scope of malware that Avira AntiVir Personal can keep you safe from is alone enough to make it one of the best free antivirus software programs but the heuristics and ease of use add to its value too. The only things I didn't like about Avira AntiVir Personal was the configuration you have to complete after installation which might be difficult if you're a computer novice.

Tip: You're asked to register during the Avira AntiVir Personal installation but it's optional. Just uncheck the box and continue with the install.

6. Panda Cloud Antivirus
Panda Cloud Antivirus protects you from several kinds of malware threats - viruses, worms, Trojans, adware, and more - just like all the other free antivirus programs in this list.

What makes Panda Cloud Antivirus one of the best free antivirus programs is that it does its job from "the cloud" meaning the hard antivirus work that typically slows down a computer is done on computers elsewhere on the Internet, freeing up your computer to work like it should and protecting you from malware even better.

Panda Cloud Antivirus supports Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Tip: Panda Cloud Antivirus tries to install a toolbar and set Yahoo! as your browser's home page during the installation process so uncheck the boxes before continuing if you don't want them. Neither are required to use Panda Cloud Antivirus.

7. Immunet Protect FREE
Immunet Protect FREE is a unique, cloud-based antivirus program, much like Panda Cloud Antivirus. Immunet Protect FREE protects your computer from bots, worms, viruses, Trojans, keyloggers, and spyware.

Immunet Protect FREE works on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. You must also be connected to the Internet at all times.

I think Protect FREE from Immunet is one of the best free antivirus programs for several reasons: you never have to update it, it has completely free telephone based support, and it can be run alongside some of the other best free antivirus tools like AVG Anti-Virus Free, Microsoft Security Essentials, and avast! Free Antivirus, increasing your overall protection!

8. digital-defender Antivirus
digital-defender Antivirus isn't a popular antivirus program but it should be. It's certainly one of the best free antivirus software programs you'll find. It's a full antivirus and antispyware program and updates on a daily basis.

digital-defender Antivirus supports Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

The relatively small installation size, daily virus definition updates, and full antispyware features make digital-defender Antivirus one of the better tools in my collection of the best free antivirus programs.
http://www.digital-defender.com/digital-defender-antivirus-free

9. PC Tools AntiVirus Free
PC Tools AntiVirus Free offers basic protection against viruses and other malware. While not my favorite, AntiVirus Free is still one of the best free antivirus programs you'll find.

PC Tools AntiVirus Free works on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

The biggest problems I have with PC Tools AntiVirus Free are the reminders throughout the program that there's a not-so-free version that you should upgrade to. To be fair, you probably won't notice it since the program runs silently in the background to protect you from viruses. I probably find it annoying because most of the features available in the upgrade are included for free in some of the higher rated best free antivirus programs above.

Transfer Files Between Devices & Your Windows 7 PC via Bluetooth
http://www.7tutorials.com/transfer-files-between-devices-your-windows-7-pc-bluetooth

1. The Pirate Bay

The Pirate Bay is probably the best known BitTorrent brand on the Internet. The site was founded in 2003 and is still expanding, despite the various legal troubles and blockades that were designed to hurt the site in recent years. The Pirate Bay currently has close to 2 billion page views a month.

2. Torrentz

Torrentz has been the leading BitTorrent meta-search engine for years. Unlike the other sites featured in the list Torrentz does not host any torrent files, it merely redirects visitors to other places on the web.

3. KickassTorrents

Founded in 2009, KickassTorrents is one of the youngest sites in the list, and this year it moved up to the top 3. Responding to the increasing worries about domain seizures, the site moved from its kickasstorrents.com domain to kat.ph a few months ago. The site continues to innovate and release new features every other week.

4. IsoHunt

In 2010 isoHunt became the first search engine forced to implement a keyword filter provided by the MPAA. Despite this setback, isoHunt continues to be listed among the top torrent sites. In 2012, isoHunt hopes to get rid of the filter through the Appeals Court.

5. BTjunkie

BTjunkie had to deal with a setback a few months ago when the site was blocked in Italy following a court order. In response to the block, the site’s owners launched an ad-free proxy site for Italians only. Just as last year, BTjunkie settles in fifth place.

6. ExtraTorrent

ExtraTorrent is one of those robust torrent indexes that doesn’t make the news very often. Compared to last year the site has moved up a spot and is now the 6th most popular torrent venue.

7. Demonoid

The semi-private tracker continues to attract a massive audience, also on the new .me domain name. Behind the scenes the site’s owners are working on a new and improved look

8. EZTV

Unlike the other sites in the top 10, TV-torrent distribution group EZTV is a niche site specializing in TV content only. Despite its fair share of downtime this year, EZTV has managed to get a spot in the top 10 for the first time in its six year existence.

9. Bitsnoop

BitSnoop is another newcomer that gained a large audience this year. This didn’t go unnoticed by the RIAA, who filed a complaint at the U.S. District Court of Columbia and obtained a subpoena to reveal the identity of BitSnoop’s owner a few months ago.

10. 1337x

1337x is also new to the top 10, and focuses more on the community aspect than some competitors. The site’s owners say they started 1337x to “fill an apparent void where it seemed there was a lack of quality conscience ad free torrent sites with public trackers.” Its 10th place this year proves that they’re getting the success formula right.
